Live/Work/Play Like Ken Fulk In SOMA, $8.9M

Some San Francisco properties are destined to become legends, and Ken Fulk’s SOMA Magic Factory is one of them. The hub of Fulk’s wide-ranging creative endeavors and his home since 2007, this 1908 loft building has been ground zero for his firm’s work designing public and private interiors plus some memorably extravagant events.

The vaguely-Renaissance Revival structure started life as a furniture showroom and factory and would go on to become Mr. Leather, the S&M-centric apparel manufacturer and retailer that was a landmark institution in the town’s gay community.

Fulk’s top floor residence is a wide open space filled with a predictably unpredictable and eclectic collection, plus an adjacent rooftop terrace. He took the concept of ‘living above the store’ to a new level: World: “This was the space I had long dreamed of, where I would not only house my business, but my private life as the two had become increasingly intertwined. I envisioned living upstairs on the top floor with my husband, Kurt, and our three golden retrievers, and below would be the design factory (more Warhol thanGM) where all sorts of talented people could gather and collaborate.” It would go on to become one of San Francisco’s great party venues where Fulk could bring together a diverse guest list ranging from celebrities to the design community.

“This building made my business what it is today,” says renowned designer and creative director Ken Fulk, who purchased the four-story building at 310 Seventh Street 15 years ago as his firm was rapidly expanding with growing roles as creative directors and event producers as well as large-scale projects in hospitality and product design.”
